Promote YT is the national support and development body for youth theatre in Scotland.

Promote YT (Scotland) was incorporated in 2004 and receives annual investment from Creative Scotland. Additional funds for project work are sourced through grant funding, corporate sponsorship and regional partnerships.
The provision of quality youth theatre across Scotland is of vital importance in not only nurturing the theatre artists and audiences of tomorrow but in also providing an accessible form of social and cultural development to young people.
Promote YT is committed to working with the sector to ensure that every young person in Scotland has access to a safe, inclusive and rewarding youth theatre experience.
In pursuit of this vision over the past seven years Promote YT has confidently advanced initiatives which have provided valued and much respected platforms allowing the sector to collaborate, network, learn and celebrate.
In recognition of the financial challenges that face both the wider sector and our organisation over the coming years Promote YT aims to continue to deliver a realistic but enterprising programme which ensures that the creative, operational and business development provided to the sector.
Through secure core investment from Creative Scotland until 2013 Promote YT’s goals are to:
- Produce an annual National Festival of Youth Theatre (NFYT) which nurtures the core values of the festival and responds to opportunity to ensure sustainability.
- Provide n annual programme of co-ordinated training and skill development in order to advance the standards and provision of youth theatre delivery in Scotland.
- Provide platforms which provide the leaders, practitioners and participants of youth theatre with the opportunity to have an active involvement in the development of their sector.
- Host digital services which serve the diverse stakeholders in the Scotland’s youth theatre sector through providing information, empowerment and opportunities for growth.
Staff
CEO/Director (full time) – Colin Bradie
Role: Financial / operational management, fundraising and strategic business development
Joined Promote YT: 2005
Colin has worked professionally in youth and children’s theatre in both Scotland and England for over 18 years. Colin established and led both the Royal Lyceum Youth Theatre in Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye Youth Theatre for Eden Court Theatre and has worked on a freelance basis for many other organisations and projects. Colin’s youth theatre work has been performed both nationally and internationally winning awards in 1997 and 2004. Colin currently sits on the Board of Glasgow based performance company Glas(s) Performance.
Training and Participation Manager (part time) – Caroline Donald
Role: Membership / sector / training / project development
Joined Promote YT: 2006
Caroline is the Participation and Training Manager for Promote YT (Scotland), and has worked for Promote for 6 years. In this time, has established and developed various national training and networking inicitives for youth theatre practitioners including SKILL UP, and The Spark Collective, and helped to grow the National Festival of Youth Theatre, to the largest open platform theatre festival for young people in the UK. She has worked extensively in the arts in Scotland since 2001 in both creative and communicative contexts and has held key posts for various leading theatres and venues. Caroline is also a freelance director, practitioner and theatre maker, and has recently worked with Thickskin, Fishbowl, Strange Theatre, NTS, Platform, and Lyceum Youth Theatre. Caroline was a member of Ulster Youth Theatre and knows first hand the impact youth theatre can have on the lives of young people.
Development Officer (full time) – Helen Bain
Role: Membership / organisational development / project funding / events co-ordination
Joined Promote YT: 2010
Helen worked as a fundraiser for two national charities before pursuing a career in the Arts. This led her to the Edinburgh International Film Festival where she assisted in delivering the 2010 education programme. She is a particular fan of contemporary and site-specific theatre.
Employment Opportunity
In support of our core staff team Promote YT annually employs a wide range of creative and operational staff on a temporary freelance basis to help support our events and projects.
