Electric Youth Theatre are a brand new youth theatre based in Edinburgh. We create edgy, contemporary theatre that we feel is real and will relate to our audiences.
When we were asked to audition for the Glasgow Subway Festival we were nervous but very excited, we knew that the festival was primarily for professional performers but we like a challenge so we gave it our all. It paid off, we were invited to perform and were the only youth theatre to be involved in the event!
And so on the 23rd of May we departed for big bad 'Glasgaeeeee'...
We performed extracts of our debut production 'Carboot Sale', a play we devised from different memories and moments of importance in our lives.
We also created a new scene about how you never know who you're sitting next to on the subway. This was our opportunity to interact with our Subway audience. We got passengers involved and by the end everyone was laughing and having a great time telling each other interesting facts about themselves. A particular highlight had to be Frank, an X factor 'reject' getting up and giving us a song!
On our second day of performing we were well into the swing of things. We had even worked out how to not fall over when the train took the crazy bend at Partick! The audiences were enthusiastic, we were having great fun and people were even giving us money!! But then disaster struck... Another company got on our train. We stood our ground, it was our performance time and asked them to leave. The manager came on and explained that as they were professionals and we were kids we had to leave.... but us being ELECTRIC we refused to get off the train, it had to be one of the funniest moments of the whole weekend, we picked up the guitar and continued playing and singing and everyone on the whole subway was singing along with us with added shouts of let the kids perform!! The feeling was surreal. And of course we were allowed to carry on performing!
Overall we had an amazing weekend with the people closest to us, we truly are a wee family and are willing to adopt anymore little electric bees to join us!
We love you electric!
