NFYT - IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT

NFYT - IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT

IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT

Following the on-going success of the NFYT since 2005 we were this year overwhelmed with interest with sixteen youth theatres (200+ young people) vying for the seven performance slots available over the proposed October weekend.

Unfortunately the late withdrawal of our original accommodation provider and difficulties of seeking alternative accommodation has made it impossible for us to offer a residential package in support of the proposed event. We considered running a shortened programme to allow groups the time to commute to from the event but this was deemed by us and our partners to be detrimental to the spirit and intention of the event.

We have therefore decided to postpone the event until the summer of 2010 when we think we can produce an event very different and even more exciting than any which have been produced in the past.

With the continued support of AttFife and associated partners the event will still take place in Fife but, by being a summer event, the NFYT 2010 can now be extended beyond the traditional two days to a three day event and, due to the warmer weather and longer days, incorporate a much more varied programme of performances, workshops and events in and out of doors.

The postponement offers the fantastic (and exciting) opportunity for the event to take ownership of a large scale camping ground within easy reach of the NFYT venue allowing us to offer groups camping accommodation ‘T in the Park' style. The camping ground has excellent facilities (including hostel accommodation for those who would rather have something solid over their heads) and can accommodate in excess of 300 people vastly increasing the scale of the event.

It is our aim to make the camping very much part of the festival experience through placing performances and events in and around the campsite as well as at the core NFYT venue.

The revised (and vastly improved) NFYT will therefore now take place on 2nd, 3rd and 4th July 2010 incorporating an additional late afternoon / evening welcome slot on the 1st to allow groups to set-up-camp.

We will be coordinating performances and bookings for the NFYT 10 later on this year and hope to offer a competitive package for festival activity, catering and camping. However we would welcome provisional interest at this early stage as we are certain this is going to be a popular event.

We can only apologise to any groups who hoped to share their productions with the sector this year and to any young people looking forward to the much anticipated NFYT 2009 experience. If proposed productions can be ‘put-on-ice' we would warmly welcome them back into the programme in 2010 (hopefully defrosted by the summer sun).

With your support we are about to pioneer a new model for the NFYT offering the freedom and flexibility to grow the scale of the event to give the opportunity to all youth theatres in Scotland (and beyond) to participate in an event in which everyone can share, learn and celebrate.

We hope you find this new proposal as exciting as we do and we would value your  feedback on our intentions. Please do not hesitate to contact Promote YT directly should you have any questions and / or concerns

Thank you for your support!
