Firefly has been awarded £76,000 from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to employ two drama workshop leaders over an 18 month period...
The workshop leaders will be based in West Lothian and Angus, and as well as delivering drama workshops in these regions they will have a remit for developing work in schools in West Lothian, Edinburgh, North and South Lanarkshire, Angus, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Firefly Arts was set up in Angus in January 2007 when it received funding from the Scottish Community Foundation to deliver a pilot project in Edzell, the success of the workshops led to workshops in Brechin and now Forfar. Alongside weekly workshops the youth theatre also holds holiday projects during the Easter, summer and October holidays. The funding is essential in maintaining these workshops but it also gives us the opportunity to expand within Angus giving more choice to young people in the local area. Alongside drama workshops the funding will also help set up and develop education projects.
Artistic director Michael Richardson who was approached by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to apply for funding says ‘I am delighted that Firefly has received recognition for the work it does from a major national Arts and Education funding charity to enable us to deliver quality work in the North East of Scotland’.
