STEP UP© - FST MENTORING PROGRAMME

Career development opportunity for individuals from all areas of the performing arts.

THE FST IS OFFERING YOU A MENTOR AND 8 MENTORING SESSIONS:

An opportunity for analysis, reflection and action that ultimately enables you to achieve success in one or more areas of your or work.

Introduction

Step Up is a new mentoring scheme for individuals from all areas of the performing arts.  It is an integral part of FST’s training and development strategy to increase the capacity and build the skills of theatre practitioners across Scotland.

Through research and consultation, FST has identified that there is a gap in mentoring provision for those working in middle and junior management level who require support to develop their management practice. This is particularly the case for those recently promoted, or wish to be promoted, to new, more senior posts.

Mentoring

Over Autumn 2008 Step Up has developed a group of 9 mentors - all experienced and respected arts managers.

Mentors work on the principle that their clients are inherently talented, resourceful and creative and that they are able to resolve issues when they understand them and know how to change them. In confidential sessions clients (mentees) can ‘think aloud’ and talk through strategies with their mentors to reach new understandings and insights into their situation.  In addition, specific expertise and experience is imparted from mentor to mentee to accelerate acquisition of essential knowledge and skills, for example, in undertaking a new role, and / or fulfilling a project or task.

Our mentors are now available from January to November 2009 to support up to 18 junior and middle management arts managers from all areas of the sector – producing, directing, management, audience development, education and technical – giving:
