Children's Arts - Children's Lives
Action for Children's Arts (ACA) are to launch a Manifesto for Children’s Arts in Scotland.
The Manifesto is based on consultation with children and adults and takes as its starting point Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child:
"Every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts. Member governments shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity."
The publication of the manifesto is the start of a campaign to put the arts at the heart of children's lives, at home, at school and in the cities, towns and villages where they live. They urge all arts organisations to consult with children towards creating their own children's versions of the mainifesto to go hand in hand with theirs.
Action for Children's Arts will be holding a launch conference at macrobert Arts Centre on Friday 3rd April 2009.
