Young Playwrights
Young Playwrights Course
21-22 March & 25-26 April 2009.
Take part in this FREE course for young playwrights aged 16-25.
Learn the tricks of the trade from professional playwrights and see your script come alive.
Scottish Youth Theatre (SYT) are offering a free course to help you to develop your existing skills whilst learning more about writing for performance. You will be offered tuition and feedback from a professional playwright who will offer you guidance in developing scripts for stage, TV, film or radio.
David Cosgrove is a BAFTA nominated writer with significant experience. SYT Productions has toured nationally and internationally with three of David’s plays; 'Dying for It’, ‘When a Star Falls’ and 'Geordie'; which were developed alongside members of the youth theatre.
So if you have an idea you want to develop or simply a passion to see your words on stage then this is the course for you. Throughout the course you will also get the chance to see members of SYT Productions bring your work to life.
* Course is free as it is being funded by the Labyrinth Trust.
* Travel expenses may be available.
* After sending in your application you provide us with an A4 sheet of prose (synopsis of an idea for a play or character monologue) or a scene (5-6 pages). Do not send a whole play.
* Applications must be receive this by 1st March and should be emailed to young.playwrights.@scottishyouththeatre.org
Weekend 1
* Master class with David Cosgrove.
* On day 2 SYT Productions will get your script up on it’s feet.
* There will be set tasks relating to the development of your script that you will have to have completed in preparation for weekend 2.
Weekend 2
* Work with your script with actors, director and mentor.
* Work towards a rehearsal reading of sections of your script.
To take part in the course, applicants must be aged between 16 and 25 years on the day the course starts (21st March 2009).
