NFYT '05 Review

The maiden Promote YT National Festival of Youth Theatre took place from the 14th to the 17th July 2005 and was attended by well over 100 young people and practitioners from all over Scotland and beyond
The event was held in partnership with Clackmannanshire council and was staged at the macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling with associated events being held in and around Clackmannanshire
The focus of the festival was the performances and the three day programme of productions encapsulated a dynamic range of ages, styles, talents and nationalities.
The groups that performed were:
Bowmar Drama Group (Clackmannanshire)

Lyceum Youth Theatre (Edinburgh) in association with
Port Townsend High School (USA)
Beyond the Door
Lauder College Youth Theatre (Fife)
Brothers of Thunder
Complex Theatre (Glasgow)

Perth Youth Theatre
The Merchant of Venice
Behind the Scenes Theatre Company (Fife)

In support of the event was a programme of skills workshops facilitated by leading practitioners on beat box, street dance, circus skills and stage fighting.
On the Saturday, all the youth theatres and practitioners participating in the festival collaborated on a street parade through the streets of Alloa which ended in a public display of the skills picked up by the festival participants in the workshop programme.
One of the highlights of the festival was a devised piece of dance theatre created jointly by representatives from the youth theatres involved in the festival under the artistic guidance of ‘Frantic Assembly’. This stunning performance closed the festival on the Sunday and was a fitting end to a weekend of energy, creativity and participation.
